The National Renewable Energy Laboratory produces a helpful map detailing the regional solar insolation (average solar radiation per square meter) for the United States. Solar insolation is the highest in the southwest, with solar panel installations in states like Arizona achieving as much as 7-8 kWh/m²/day.
